Karl Burke places real value on the important role his team play in making the yard successful.

Robert Eddery Assistant Trainer
Robert joined the yard in 2008 as Assistant Trainer having
previously worked for M Harris. Rob, from a massive racing family,
has a wealth of experience. His racing career started in Ireland
where he was champion apprentice. Rob oversees the day to day
running of the yard and takes charge when Karl is away.

Alec Dent Head Lad
Alec recently joined us from Howard Johnson's yard and brings a great
deal of experience to the team. Although Alec worked mostly with jump
horses at Howard's he also has a wealth of knowledge of flat and young
horses and possesses a great understanding of the different medications
required by thoroughbred race horses. During the very busy summer months
Alec also assists Janine and Janice with the travelling.

Jack Smith Assistant Head Lad
Jack is one of the longest serving members of the Spigot Lodge team having
joined when Karl moved to the yard in 2001. He assists the Head Lads checking
the horses each day and administers any required medications.

Janine Hamilton & Janice Webster Travelling Head Girls
Janine and Janice have been in the role of Travelling Head Girl for a number of
years and both are very experienced. The role includes transporting the horses
to and from the course and ensuring that the horses are well prepared as possible
for their race.

Caroline Smith Secretary
Caroline joined the yard in July 2008 after finishing her studies at University and
completing the Racing Secretary's course at the Northern Racing College. Caroline has
always been involved with racing through her family's racing connections. Caroline
role includes managing the entries, declarations, invoicing and all the other day to
day administration involved in running a busy racing office.

Kelly Burke Amateur Jockey & Secretary
Karl's daughter Kelly joined the yard straight from school and has already ridden four winners.
Kelly rides out each morning before joining Caroline in the office. She regularly goes racing
where Kelly can be seen saddling the runners prior to a race.

Lucy Burke Work Rider & Amateur Jockey
Lucy started work for Spigot Racing Ltd straight after from school and she has ridden 3 winners
so far including Blue Sky Thinking trained at the yard and owned by Elaine Burke.

Andrew Elliott Stable Jockey
Andrew started off as an apprentice with fellow Middleham trainer Mark Johnston. He joined our
yard as a seven pound claimer and rode his first winner aboard Romil Star owned by Elaine Burke.
Andrew went on to ride his claim out for us and is now one of our Stable Jockeys. He has enjoyed
big race wins on Lesson In Humility and Magic Cat.

Martin Lane Apprentice Jockey (5)
Martin joined us this year from Ireland and he has got off to a flying start having already enjoyed
being a frequent visitor to the winner's enclosure.
